Ipad Use at Valley View North Elementary-
Whole Group use - Ipad connected to the vga input of an LCD projector. with active student participation.
Small Group Use - several students sharing an Ipad on a grammar project.
Individual Use - Each student has their own ipad and works at their own pace and level in a small group setting.
The Ipad Applications are evaluated by a certified teacher and are aligned to the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills set which are mandated by TEA (Texas Education Agency).
Then the Ipads are in turned aligned to District mandated curriculum solutions such as C-Scope (Region One Curriculum),, to the curriculum timeline, and the YAG (year at a glace) parameters.
TAME - The Texas Alliance for Minorities in Engineering
is a non-profit organization based out of Austin, Texas.
TAME has programs that target and help academia to improve the number of students that enter into the Engineering fields by bringing scientific displays to schools.
The Mobile Science Units are proudfully sponsored by Corporate donors, such as ConocPhillips, Shell Corporation, Halliburton, ABB, Marathon Oil Company, Lockheed Martin, Dow Chemical, The Meadows Foundation , Cockrell School of Engineering at UT Austin amog many other supporters.
We hosted the TAME Engineering Mobile Unit and the students had an opportunity to try out many interactive scientific displays. They learned how the weather patterns affect our environment, about non-renewable energy sources as well as renewable forms of energy. They tried out solar panels and learned how air turbines generate electricity. The students learned that energy changes form and how it changes form.
Based on that gained knowledge, we at North will expand on that knowledge they gained by extending those experiences through the use of Ipad applications such as Experica and others to simulate and emulate scientific processes.
